Betty's location check has detected something on your device or browser that's blocking it β usually a VPN, proxy, extension, or modified browser settings. Here's how to clear it.
You may be seeing:
"You seem to be using a proxy or VPN. Please ensure you have turned off any VPN or location mocking services to continue."
"Please ensure you have turned off any VPN or proxy to continue. If you are not connected via VPN, try to connect from another browser or device."
"A VPN or location extension has been detected. Please disable any VPN, proxy, or browser extensions that may affect your location and try again."
"A VPN connection has been detected. Please disable your VPN and try again."
"A location spoofing app has been detected on your device. Please uninstall any location spoofing applications and try again."
"Your browser's sensor settings appear to have been modified. Please reset your Chrome sensor settings to default and try again."
"Your browser's location settings appear to have been modified. Please reset your Firefox geolocation configuration to default and try again."
π« Turn off any VPN, Proxy or Location-altering Apps
- Check for any active VPN, proxy, or privacy app on your device and close it fully β pausing it may not be enough.
- On browser: check your extensions and disable anything that modifies your location or network traffic.
π Reset Browser Location or Sensor Settings (Browser Only)
If location or sensor settings were changed through developer tools, reset them to default.
- π» Chrome
- Go to chrome://settings/content/location β confirm it's set to "Sites can ask for your location"
- If DevTools were used: press F12 β More Tools β Sensors β set Location to "No override"
- π¦ Firefox
- Go to about:config β confirm geo.enabled is true and geo.provider.network.url is unchanged
- Go to Settings β Privacy & Security β Permissions β Location β Allow Access
π§Ή Clear Your Browser Cache (Browser Only)
Clear your cached files and cookies β make sure to select "All Time" as the time range.

- Click the three dots in the top right β Settings β Privacy and security β Clear browsing data
- Select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files
- Set time range to All time β Clear data
- π Safari (Mac)
- Go to Safari β Settings β Privacy tab β Manage Website Data β Remove All
- π¦ Firefox (Desktop)
- Click the three lines β Settings β Privacy & Security β Cookies and Site Data β Clear Data
- πΉ Edge (Desktop)
- Click the three dots β Settings β Privacy, search, and services β Choose what to clear
- Select Cookies and Cached images and files β Clear now
- π iPhone / iPad (Safari)
- Open Settings β Safari β Clear History and Website Data β confirm
- π iPhone / iPad (Chrome)
- Open Chrome β three dots β Settings β Privacy and Security β Clear Browsing Data β select Cookies and Cached Images β Clear Browsing Data
- π€ Android (Chrome)
- Open Chrome β three dots β History β Clear browsing data
- Select Cookies and site data and Cached images and files β All time β Clear data
After clearing, close the browser fully, reopen it, and try again.
π΅οΈ Try Incognito or Private morde (Browser Only)
- Open an Incognito window (Chrome) or Private Browsing (Firefox) to rule out extension conflicts quickly.
π Restart the App or Browser

- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause to open the App Switcher (On older devices with a Home button, double-press the Home button)
- Find the Betty app and swipe it up and off the screen
- Reopen the app and log back in
- π€ Android
- Option A β From Recent Apps:
- Tap the Recent Apps button
- Find the Betty app and swipe it away
- Reopen the app
- Option B β From Settings:
- Open Settings β Apps β Betty β Force Stop
- Reopen the app and log back in
